![]() Tomorrow I'll give it a go with my Fat Boy. In fact, I purchased another lot this AM. They deliver very comfortable shaves with just a bit of trade-off in sharpness/closeness. The Feather and Spoilers can usually deliver BBS without the buffing, but the touch up was pretty minor.Īfter Day 1, I'm quite satisfied with the French Wilkies. A bit of buffing was required to achieve BBS on my chin and around my upper lip. Third (ATG) pass was also quite smooth with no irritation or weeps. Beard reduction at this point was quite good and I could have easily stopped here and had a DFS. Second (XTG) pass was a non-event with no pulling or irritation. There was little blade chatter or pulling with the French Wilkie but they were not quite as good as my smoothest blades. Blade performance can range to smooth as silk (Persona 74, Feather, Spoiler) to feeling like you are skateboarding on a cobblestone street (Voskhod, Bolzano). The first (WTG) pass with an R41 is the most revealing. Because it it common in that sense, I just though they were old blades from God knows when, and no worth trying. With all the blades I've been trying, I wanted to wait to try out the Wilkinson Sword Classic, because here in NYC, it's the one brand of D/E blade that most Mom & Pop drug stores or bodegas carry for between 1.99 and 2.50. I use a steep 70-degree angle with the R41. Get the best deals on Wilkinson Blades In Collectible Safety Razors when you shop the largest online selection at. I used standard beard prep (basically a 5 minute shower) and Tabac. The R41 is a great razor for testing blades as the variance in blade sharpness, smoothness and longevity is quite easy to determine. Shave 1: I broke out the 2013 R41 this AM and commenced shaving one-day stubble from my coarse beard. I doubt a counterfitter is going to the trouble of replicating yellowed cases or dried glue. My DE blades of choice are Personna Med Preps and Feathers typically I get four shaves from a Med Prep and three from a Feather. The only one that looks promising is made by Wilkinson but can't seem to identify it. All these point to genuine NOS in my opinion. the only wilkinson de i know of is the sticky, a lot of old de shavers would call any razor a gillette or wilkinson sword or whatever, i dont think a lot of the old boys were into the colecting game, they just shaved with whatever was there, i got a razor from an old guy who told me the razor was an ever ready, it was a gillette tech. I recently was cleaning out the case of one of my user grade razors when I noticed some wrapped blades I had not bothered with this was before I got into vintage blades. Cases had identification data that was clearly cast into the plastic. Printed wrappers were clear and high quality. Blades are individually wrapped and have 4 glue points that were dried. There was a slight yellowing of the white plastic cases and the cellophane. A few tucks had the wrap broken in a spot or two, but no issues. Blades were very well preserved and had their original cellophane wrappers intact. +1 to the seller for a good purchase experience. The blades arrived 10 days after eBay purchase from Poland which I thought was quite reasonable. I also have some similar white packet tucks that have Made in England on the plastic tuck, on the blade, and on the wrapper (like these but no blister packs ).Got the French Wilkie blades yesterday. Smoother than the Super Sword Edges for sure, possibly not as sharp. The blade pictured has had 4 good shaves from it so far, very smooth and decently sharp. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has come across this variant, as I haven't found anything on the shave forums. ![]() The blade print/markings are identical on each side. The blade wrappers are plain with no markings or print. The edge of the blades works fine for typically 4-5 shaves with no tugging. The condition of the packaging while sealed in plastic per tuck has degraded significantly lot, and the blades have a light layer of tarnish on them which comes off, the paper and cardboard packaging has oxidixed a lot, there are no numbers or codes anywhere. Modern stock Wilkinson blades are made in Germany. I'm guessing these are Made in England but made for and sold in an export market not the USA or UK. They aren't marked as Made in England anywhere, but the packet styling seems to pre-date when they were made in Germany, and probably from the 80s. I came across some of these Wilkinson blades here in Australia.
